Senator Dean Rummel and Kylan Klauzer Announce Joint Candidacy for District 37

Jan 28, 2026 | Press Release

Dickinson, N.D. — Republicans Senator Dean Rummel and Kylan Klauzer today announced their joint candidacy for the North Dakota Legislature to represent the constituents of District 37. Together, they say their decision to run reflects a shared commitment to steady leadership, fiscal responsibility, and strong communities in southwest North Dakota.

Senator Rummel was first elected to the State Senate in 2023, he is the current Vice Chair of Senate Finance and Taxation. Senator Rummel was instrumental in passing the largest property tax relief and reform package in North Dakota history, allowing eligibility for all primary residents to access a $1600 property tax credit. The package also capped local political subdivisions to a 3% increase on their property tax budgets.

In addition, he brings more than four decades of business leadership and public service. Rummel retired in 2017 after a distinguished career with TMI Systems Design, where he rose from staff accountant to President and Chief Operating Officer.

“Our community has always valued experience, common sense, and fiscal discipline,” Senator Rummel said. “I am proud of the work we have accomplished over the past two sessions – delivering property tax relief and reform, responsible fiscal governing, and making smart investments into long term economic projects that impact our state. I would be honored to continue to earn the support from the people of Dickinson and build off these successes.”

Kylan Klauzer has spent his entire adult life serving the community of Dickinson – he deeply believes in what Dickinson has to offer an opportunity for anyone willing to work hard building a better life for themselves and their family. Kylan’s professional career is rooted in public service. He served nearly two decades with the Dickinson Police Department, holding investigative and supervisory roles and serving as a team leader on the regional SWAT team. Currently, he works for ONEOK and remains deeply involved in community organizations across Dickinson and western North Dakota.

“My goal is to help grow opportunities for individuals and families who, like mine, are proud to call Dickinson home,” stated Kylan Klauzer. “In the House, I will fight for continued property tax relief, build on our pro-energy and agriculture business environment, and advocate for behavioral and mental health resources and criminal justice reform.”

Together, Senator Rummel and Klauzer say their priorities include continued property tax relief, support for North Dakota’s energy economy, access to behavioral and mental health services, and policies that strengthen public safety, education, and workforce development. Both candidates emphasize a collaborative leadership style rooted in preparation, data-driven decision-making, and respect for differing viewpoints.

My goal is to help grow opportunities for individuals and families who, like mine, are proud to call Dickinson home. I want to build off the success District 37 has seen at the State Legislature, be a champion for continued property tax relief, build on our pro-energy and agriculture business environment, and advocate for behavioral and mental health resources and criminal justice reform.
